You must hit every target to get a score but it is not a precision match. Targets can range in size from 1⁄2 inch in diameter to 3 or 4 foot tall and even an adult coyote.
As the name implies, shoot the hill, this match will use targets installed on the rifle range hill plus others on the range ground level. Distance could run between 25yards and 241 yards if my rangefinder is correct. There is no ammo limit on the number of 22lr rounds you can use to engage the assigned targets. But you must do so in the stage order and within 5 minutes.
Adding to the new style of competition this will be a 2 person team match. Yes, teammates working together to engage 35 or 40 targets each. One shooting while the partner spots and scores the impacts. then switching jobs and doing it again. Friends, neighbors, strangers, husband and wife or even someone you don’t like but shoots well, teaming up to beat each other then all the other teams. Sounds like fun to me. If you don’t have a teammate, pairings will be randomly selected.
Keeping with the different features of this match it will have staggered start times. no need to be hanging around for hours (unless you want to) because you can request a start time or will be assigned one when registering. First registering first choice of start times. Any bolt action or semi auto rifle chambered for 22lr with a removable magazine that fires only one shot per trigger depression is acceptable, as long as all factory safety features work. Rifles will be classed by weight or action type. Weight will include a scope and mounts plus any add on weights, rails or devices other than a bipod or magazine.
Class 9U bolt action rifles weighing 9 lbs or under
Class 9O bolt action rifles weighing over 9 lbs 1 oz
Class SA semi auto rifle any weight
Recommended that shooters have 3 or 4 magazines that hold 10 rounds minimum. A couple of 25 rounders work well. Having 100 or 150 rounds of ammo lets you miss a few times before hitting all assigned targets. Shooting will be standing from bench top props (NRL22 style barricades) supporting the rifle between the front of the magazine well and the forward tip of foreend. No shooting will require kneeling, setting on ground or laying prone. Bench top props could include anything from a pyramid, chain swing, post tops, sloping roof top, step ladder or spinning top tripod.
Think of this as NRL22 meets PRS22 with some team sniper thrown in. Mix the team up too. A precision rifle for shooter one and semi auto for the second shooter. This may well turn out to be the most fun and adventurous of all our club matches.
Run a patch through a rifle bore and bag it up. Several mags in one pocket and a handful of 22lrs in the other.
ADDITIONAL TRAINING MATCHES WILL BE HELD NOVEMBER 14 AND DECEMBER 12 THIS YEAR. THE OFFICIAL COMPETITION SEASON WILL BEGIN JANUARY 2027.
